How do you get to Dublin City from Dublin Airport?

Dublin Bus is the country’s largest public transport provider, carrying 159 million passengers in 2024. More than a third of travellers getting to and from Dublin Airport now take the bus according to research by the Dublin Airport Authority.  We have three routes to get you from Dublin Airport into the city centre. Here’s what you need to know!

  • When you come through arrivals into either Terminal 1 or Terminal 2, you want to make your way to the ‘Transport Zones’. There is ample signage in the airport, and the DAA are in the process of rolling out wayfinding markings on the ground. They have also installed a ‘Public Transportation Information Point’ with information for all bus operators servicing the airport.

  • Standard cash fare of €2.60 can be paid to the driver on the bus.  But there are concession fares available. It is important to note that our drivers cannot take notes, so you have to pay by coin if you have not already purchased a ticket. We cannot accept payment by bank card or through your phone by any ‘tap to pay’ systems.

Regular Dublin Bus users will be able to use their LEAP card issued by Transport for Ireland. The good news is that there is a visitor version of this card that can be bought on line and posted to you in advance of your trip. A day pass costs €8 and can be used on Dublin Bus, some other bus operators, DART and the Luas tram system. Longer 3-day and 7-day options are available.

Those that are simply travelling into Dublin can also buy a Travel 90 ticket for €2.60 in Wright’s Food Fayre just inside the door where the Transport Zones are located at Dublin Airport. As this is a 90 minute ticket, you can also use it in Dublin city for the next stage of your journey on more than 100 other Dublin Bus only routes. Note this is not valid on other operators, DART or Luas. The other benefit is you can pay for this ticket in the Wright’s shop by card, phone or with notes.

When boarding the bus there is a ticket scanner on the right-hand side just inside the doors. You simply hold your ticket against this pad until you hear the beep. Then find a comfortable seat for your journey.

  • Dublin Bus has three services that go through Dublin Airport, all either going into or through the city centre.

Route 16 travels back and forth between Dublin airport and Ballinteer on the south side of Dublin. Buses leave approximately every 10-15 minutes.

Route 19 travels between Merrion Square on the south side of the city and Dublin Airport.

Route 24 operate from Dublin Airport to Merrion Square, serving Charlestown, Glasnevin and Phibsborough.

Route 41 stops in Dublin Airport in both directions as it makes its way between Swords in the north of Dublin and Lower Abbey Steet in Dublin City Centre. This route operates around the clock.

  • You might want to continue your journey by public transport to a different part of Dublin City, or even beyond. A great resource for this is to use the journey planner on the TFI app or on their website.

  • Why not take a tour of Dublin City using Dublin Bus’s very own tour guides? DoDublin has been the Number 1 Hop-on Hop-off Tour of Dublin for over 35 years! We also provide tickets for Dublin’s top visitor attractions, day tours around Ireland and Airport Transfers.
